These apple monster mouth snacks are great to serve at a Halloween party. But they are also great if you are looking for a simple and healthy snack anytime!

How to keep the apples from browning

Of course, anytime you use apples, once they’ve been cut, they tend to oxidize and turn brown pretty quickly. And that makes them less than appealing to eat. But it also can impact taste and nutrient levels. Luckily there are a couple of things you can do to help keep the apples from browning too quickly.

Saltwater

Saltwater helps to slow down the browning process. Mix 1/2 tsp. salt in two cups of water. Place apples cut side down in the water and let them soak for 5-10 minutes.

Lemon water

Most people know about using lemon to prevent browning in apples. Use 1 tsp. of fresh lemon juice with 2 cups of water. Place apples cut side down in the mixture and allow to soak for 5-10 minutes.

Be sure to pat the cut apples dry after soaking. Not doing so will prevent the nut butter from sticking!

This recipe makes 16 mouths so feel free to double it if you are using these apple monster mouth snacks for a party.
